Woman Found Dead in Suitcase at Kansas Fire Station as Police Investigate
WICHITA, Kansas — September 19, 2026

A homicide investigation is underway in Wichita after a 67-year-old woman was found dead inside a suitcase that was brought to a local fire station, police said.

The woman was identified Friday as Lorretta Moody, according to the Wichita Police Department. Authorities are continuing to investigate how she died and how the people who brought the suitcase to the station may be connected to the case.

Suitcase Brought to Fire Station
The investigation began Wednesday evening when two people arrived at Wichita Fire Station 22 carrying a suitcase.

The individuals told firefighters that a body was inside the suitcase, prompting police to respond and begin a homicide investigation.

Investigators later identified the woman as Moody. Police said her body was taken to the local medical examiner’s office as authorities worked to determine additional details surrounding her death.

Police Interviewing Two People
Authorities are interviewing the two individuals who brought the suitcase to the fire station.

Police said investigators are working to determine how Moody and the individuals being interviewed were connected to one another.

Investigators are also reviewing evidence and attempting to establish a complete timeline of events leading up to the discovery of the body.

No Arrests Announced
As of Friday, police had not announced any arrests in connection with the case.

Authorities also said there was no apparent threat to the public.

Investigators are continuing to interview people, review evidence, identify additional locations that could be connected to the case and locate potential witnesses.

The circumstances surrounding Moody’s death remain under investigation, and police have not publicly identified a suspect.
