Woman Reunites With EMS Crew Who Saved Her Life After Cardiac Arrest

Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States — September 23, 2026

Elen Shipman returned to a Spartanburg EMS station to reunite with the emergency responders who helped save her life after she suffered a cardiac arrest at home.

The emotional meeting gave Shipman an opportunity to personally thank the crew members who performed CPR, managed her airway and coordinated her emergency treatment.

A Race to Save Her Life

When EMS responders arrived at Shipman’s home, she was in critical condition. The team quickly began emergency treatment before transporting her to Spartanburg Medical Center.

EMTs Brandon Banks, Jennifer Lindman and Daria Krohmal, along with paramedic and assistant supervisor Zach Hubbard, were among the responders involved in her care.

After arriving at the hospital, Shipman began the long process of recovery. Members of the EMS team also visited her while she was hospitalized.

A Reunion Months Later

After completing physical therapy and continuing her recovery at home, Shipman returned to the EMS station to see the people who had been there during one of the most frightening moments of her life.

The reunion included photographs, conversation and plenty of smiles as Shipman thanked the responders for their efforts.

For the EMS crew, seeing Shipman walking into the station was especially meaningful. Banks emphasized that the successful outcome was the result of the entire team’s work.

Recovery Brings a New Perspective

Shipman recalled being frightened during the emergency and said waking up in the hospital made her realize how dramatically her life had changed.

Since then, she has continued working to regain her strength and spend time with her family.

Her return to the EMS station allowed her to close an important chapter of the experience while meeting again with the people who helped give her another chance to recover.
