19-Year-Old Kentucky Babysitter Charged After 11-Month-Old Grayson Walton Found Dead Inside Sofa

A Kentucky community is mourning the death of 11-month-old Grayson Walton, after the infant was reported missing and later found dead inside a sofa.

Police were called on September 12, 2026, after Grayson’s father reported that his son could not be located. The baby had reportedly been left in the care of 19-year-old Elijah Mayes while his father was at work.

According to investigative records, Mayes initially told authorities that a family acquaintance had picked up Grayson. Police contacted the person Mayes identified, but the individual denied ever collecting the infant.

Investigators then began searching properties connected to the case. At a residence in Cleaton, Kentucky, officers made a devastating discovery when they found Grayson’s body concealed inside a sofa.

Records cited in the investigation also described multiple bruises on the infant. Investigators reported that marks on Grayson’s abdomen appeared consistent with bite marks. The full circumstances surrounding the baby’s death remain under investigation.

Mayes has been charged with murder, first-degree criminal abuse, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse and possession of methamphetamine. The charges are allegations, and prosecutors must prove them in court.

Investigators have also alleged that efforts were made to conceal evidence after Grayson’s death. The case has since expanded, with Grayson’s stepfather also arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence.

The discovery has left Grayson’s family and the local community struggling to understand how the infant died while in the care of someone who was reportedly responsible for watching him.
