Woman Reports Dead Man to Police, Then Is Arrested for Murder
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO — September 21, 2026

A woman who went to police to report a dead man inside a Colorado Springs home was later arrested and accused of killing him, authorities said.

Sheldon “Shelly” Wilson, 62, is facing charges of second-degree murder and tampering with a deceased human body.

Police Receive Report of Dead Man
The investigation began Saturday afternoon when Wilson and another woman went to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Police Operations Center.

The women told officers that a man was dead inside a home in the 4000 block of Tappan Drive, near North Academy Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard.

Officers went to the property and confirmed that a man had died inside the residence. The department’s Homicide Unit then took over the investigation.

Woman Who Reported the Death Is Arrested
As detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the death, their inquiry led to Wilson, one of the two women who had initially reported the body.

Police subsequently arrested Wilson on suspicion of second-degree murder and tampering with a deceased human body.

Authorities have not publicly explained what evidence led investigators to identify Wilson as a suspect.

Victim Has Not Been Identified
The identity of the deceased man has not yet been released.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office is expected to formally identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death.

Police have also not disclosed a possible motive, the relationship between Wilson and the victim, or what led to the tampering charge. The role of the second woman who accompanied Wilson to police also remains unclear.

Investigation Remains Ongoing
The case remains under investigation as detectives work to establish what happened inside the home.

Additional details are expected to be released as investigators and the coroner’s office complete their work.

Wilson has been accused of the offenses and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
