19-Year-Old Ino Juol-Thor Jailed After Dramatic Monash Freeway Police Operation

19-Year-Old Jailed After Dramatic Police Operation Brings Melbourne Freeway to a Standstill
A dramatic police operation that brought Melbourne’s Monash Freeway to a standstill has ended with a 19-year-old man being sentenced to one month in jail.
Ino Juol-Thor was among six people arrested after police intercepted a stolen Nissan on the Monash Freeway near Chadstone on Tuesday.
The operation unfolded around lunchtime, with more than a dozen police officers, including officers in tactical gear, moving in as traffic came to a standstill.

Several people were detained and handcuffed as motorists faced major delays on one of Melbourne’s busiest roads.
Less than 24 hours later, Juol-Thor appeared in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle.
The court heard that he had been a passenger in the stolen Nissan when police surrounded the vehicle.
However, his lawyer told the court that police had not accused Juol-Thor of being involved in the alleged home break-ins that preceded the freeway pursuit.
Prosecutors said the Nissan and an Audi had allegedly been stolen from a home in Brighton East before the vehicles were linked to another alleged home invasion in Hampton Park.
Police later spotted the Nissan being driven erratically and followed it through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs before the dramatic interception on the Monash Freeway.

Magistrate Suzette Dootjes described Juol-Thor’s offending as serious but acknowledged that he played a limited role.
The court also heard that he had only recently been placed on a community corrections order and had failed to complete required work.
He was ultimately sentenced to one month in jail.
Meanwhile, the other teenagers arrested during the operation remain in custody and face a range of charges, including alleged aggravated burglary, car theft and armed robbery. A 20-year-old man also remains in hospital under police guard.
The dramatic arrests caused major disruption for Melbourne motorists, with all outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway temporarily closed during the police operation.
