Nantucket Medical Plane Disappearance: 6 People Identified After 66-Hour Search Is Suspended

SIX PEOPLE IDENTIFIED AFTER MEDICAL JET VANISHES OFF NANTUCKET — SEARCH CALLED OFF AFTER 66 HOURS

Authorities have identified the six people aboard a medical transport jet that disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean near Nantucket, Massachusetts, during a flight from Bermuda to Boston.

The aircraft, a Canadian-registered Gulfstream G100 operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, lost contact with air traffic controllers during the early hours of October 3, 2026. A debris field believed to be connected to the aircraft was later discovered in the ocean.

The six people on board were identified as:

• Philip Gregory Childerhose — Captain
• Thomas Henry Farquhar — First Officer
• Sarah Jane Paton — Flight Nurse
• Jolene Beth Weir — Respiratory Therapist
• Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66 — Patient
• Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41 — Bean’s son

According to reports, Bean and her son were traveling to Boston for medical care after she suffered a stroke.

The aircraft’s crew was carrying out a medical transport mission when the flight ended in tragedy. Canadian investigators said the crew reported electrical difficulties as the aircraft approached the Boston area. The plane then descended rapidly before air traffic controllers lost contact.

The U.S. Coast Guard and partner agencies conducted an extensive search operation, covering approximately 4,445 miles over roughly 66 hours. Despite locating debris associated with the aircraft, rescuers were unable to locate the six people on board.

On October 4, the Coast Guard announced that it was suspending its search. The decision brought an end to an intensive rescue effort, leaving families, colleagues and loved ones facing an agonizing period of uncertainty and grief.

Latitude Air Ambulance paid tribute to its crew, emphasizing their dedication to helping people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is leading the investigation, with assistance from U.S. authorities. Investigators are working to establish what happened during the flight and determine the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s disappearance.

As the investigation continues, the six people aboard the medical flight are being remembered not only for the circumstances of their disappearance, but also for the lives they lived and the people who cared about them.
