6-Year-Old Boy Honored for Bravery After Grandmother Was Struck by SUV in Front of Him

NEW JERSEY — A six-year-old boy is receiving widespread praise after his remarkable response to a frightening accident involving his grandmother, who was struck by an SUV while helping him ride his bicycle.

Finn Mackenzie, from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, was recently recognized by local officials for demonstrating extraordinary courage during an emergency that unfolded on July 30.

A Terrifying Accident Caught on Camera

Finn was spending time with his grandmother, Rebecca McCluskey, when an SUV struck her and knocked her to the ground.

Surveillance footage captured the frightening moment, including the young boy’s immediate reaction after witnessing his grandmother being hit.

Rather than simply running away, Finn approached his injured grandmother and checked on her condition.

A Little Boy Makes a Big Decision

Realizing that his grandmother needed assistance, Finn quickly alerted his grandfather before running to a nearby neighbor’s home to seek emergency help.

He understood that calling 911 was an important step in getting help for his grandmother.

His quick response demonstrated an impressive understanding of what to do when a loved one is in danger.

Community Recognizes His Courage

On October 7, Egg Harbor Township officials publicly honored Finn during a township meeting.

Mayor Laura Pfrommer and local police leadership recognized the six-year-old for his bravery, presenting him with an official proclamation.

Finn received a standing ovation from those attending the ceremony.

His grandmother was also present, proudly watching as the community celebrated her grandson’s actions.

A Reminder That Heroes Come in All Sizes

Authorities also reported that the SUV driver was cited for careless driving.

Finn’s actions have since attracted attention beyond his local community, highlighting how even young children can make a meaningful difference during emergencies.

For Rebecca McCluskey, the ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate a grandson whose love and quick thinking helped her during an incredibly frightening moment.
