Pennsylvania Father’s Family Massacre Raises Disturbing Questions About Years of Isolation
Pennsylvania Father Kept Family Isolated for Years Before Deadly Mass Shooting, Police Say

A shocking family tragedy in Erie, Pennsylvania, has revealed disturbing details about years of alleged control and isolation inside a family home, according to investigators.
On October 9, 2026, Matthew Stone Sr., 45, fatally shot eight family members before taking his own life, authorities said. The victims included his wife, Michelle Stone, 44; three of their children; two young grandchildren; Michelle’s sister; and a family friend. Angelina Stone, 24, was pregnant and reportedly only days away from giving birth.
Investigators said relatives described a household in which Matthew Stone Sr. allegedly controlled the family’s finances, restricted their contact with others and limited when they could leave the residence. Police Chief Rick Lorah said family members had reported increasingly troubling circumstances over the years.
The condition of the home added to the concerns. Authorities described finding numerous large bottles filled with urine throughout the residence, while the shower, toilet and kitchen sinks appeared unusable despite the property having running water.
Police also said Angelina had reportedly been planning to leave the household after giving birth. Less than 30 minutes before officers responded to the shooting, she contacted her aunt, Lora Roberts, seeking help. Roberts and family friend Twila Tanner went to the residence, but both women were among those killed.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the massacre. The tragedy has left relatives and the community mourning multiple generations of one family.
