Tennessee Woman Left Paralyzed After Man Falls From Tree During Music Festival

A Tennessee woman is facing a life-changing recovery after a freak accident at a music festival in Louisville, Kentucky, left her with a severe spinal cord injury and unable to walk from the waist down.

Jamie Ulshoffer, from Clarksville, Tennessee, was attending the Louder Than Life Festival with her husband, Conor, and friends on September 18. Around 11:15 p.m., while metalcore band Knocked Loose was performing at the Impact Stage, Jamie was sitting near the back of a tent area when a nearby man fell from a tree and landed directly on her.

According to Louisville Metro Police, the man had climbed into the tree when a limb broke, causing him to fall. Officers who were nearby immediately provided first aid before emergency medical personnel arrived and transported Jamie to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Her husband later recalled the terrifying moment he realized something had happened. Conor said he turned around and saw Jamie lying on the ground, while people nearby told him that someone had just fallen from a tree.

Jamie suffered a broken back and three fractured ribs, along with devastating damage to her spinal cord. Her spinal cord was severed, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. She currently has no sensation in her feet, and doctors have not been able to give her a clear indication of whether she will ever walk again.

Jamie has little memory of the accident itself. She told reporters that the only thing she remembers is waking up in a hospital bed. The sudden loss of mobility has left her facing an uncertain future, including the possibility that she may no longer be able to take part in everyday activities with her children.

Despite the devastating circumstances, Jamie has also expressed a willingness to forgive the man who fell on her. She questioned why he had climbed the tree, particularly after rain, but said she would forgive him.

Jamie remains hospitalized in Louisville while continuing treatment and beginning the difficult process of recovery. Her family has said there is currently no clear timeline for when she will be able to return to Tennessee. The Louder Than Life organizers confirmed that they were aware of an incident involving law enforcement and medical personnel but declined to provide details because of patient privacy.

A fundraiser has been launched by Jamie’s family to help cover expenses during her hospitalization and long-term recovery. Loved ones are now hoping the support of friends, family and the wider community will help Jamie through what could be a long and uncertain road ahead.
