Two Teen Brothers Save Toddler’s Life After Grandmother and Children Fall Into Pond
Two teenage brothers in Carmel, Indiana, are being praised for their extraordinary courage after helping rescue a grandmother and two young children from a retention pond, preventing what authorities believe could have been a heartbreaking tragedy.
A Family Emergency Unfolds Near a Pond
The frightening incident occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on October 12 in the Delaware Trace neighborhood.
A grandmother and two children, ages two and four, were struggling to escape a retention pond. The younger child was in a stroller that had become partially submerged, while the older child was strapped to the grandmother’s back.
Brothers Maddox Larger, 15, and Grant Larger, 14, stepped in to help as the situation became increasingly dangerous.
Teen Brothers Rush to the Rescue
The brothers helped pull the grandmother and both children from the water.
After retrieving the stroller, Maddox quickly unbuckled the two-year-old and administered back blows until the toddler began breathing.
The teenagers continued assisting the family until emergency responders arrived.

Police Praise Their Courage
By the time first responders evaluated the children, both were conscious and crying.
Authorities believe the brothers’ immediate intervention likely saved the younger child’s life.
Carmel Police Department Sgt. Matt Keinsley praised their courage and ability to respond quickly under pressure, crediting their actions with helping prevent a tragic outcome.
Young Heroes to Receive Recognition
The brothers’ actions have earned recognition from their community.
The Carmel City Council is scheduled to formally recognize Maddox and Grant during its November 16 meeting at Carmel City Hall.
