Gastonia Woman Accepts Plea Deal in 2018 Double Murder Case After Dispute Over a Truck

A dispute over a truck escalated into a deadly confrontation in Gastonia, North Carolina, leaving two people dead and leading to a criminal case that took years to reach a major turning point.

In September 2022, Brittany Gidney accepted a plea agreement for her role in the 2018 killings of Robert Metcalfe and Brenda Henson. Under the agreement, her charges were reduced from double murder to accessory after murder, and she faced a sentence of three and a half years in prison in exchange for testifying against her co-defendant.

According to prosecutors, the incident began when an argument broke out over Metcalfe’s truck. The people involved reportedly knew one another, and what started as a dispute eventually turned into a violent encounter.

During the court proceedings, Gidney described her involvement, saying she held a knife to Henson’s neck before running outside. Prosecutors alleged that Marcus Meadows fatally attacked Metcalfe with a claw hammer and stabbed Henson.

The deaths devastated the victims’ families. Relatives spoke in court about the lasting pain of losing their loved ones and the difficulty of accepting that an argument had ended in such a tragedy.

Gidney’s plea agreement meant she would be expected to testify against Meadows, whose alleged role in the killings remained central to the case. Prosecutors said her testimony would help explain what happened during the confrontation and establish the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.

The case illustrates how a dispute between people who know one another can escalate into deadly violence, leaving families to deal with irreversible loss and a lengthy legal process.
