Two Teen Brothers Save Grandmother and Children From Pond — Then Discover a Toddler Still Trapped Underwater

Two teenage brothers in Indiana are being hailed as heroes after rescuing a grandmother and her two young grandchildren from a retention pond, including a two-year-old boy who became trapped underwater in his stroller.

The dramatic incident occurred in Carmel on October 12, 2026, when 15-year-old Maddox Larger and his 14-year-old brother, Grant, heard a sudden splash and realized a family was in serious danger.

A Terrifying Discovery Near the Pond

The brothers rushed toward the water and spotted a grandmother struggling to stay afloat.

A stroller carrying her two-year-old grandson had become partially submerged, while another grandchild, aged four, was strapped to her back.

Neither the grandmother nor the older child knew how to swim.

Two Brothers Rush Into Action

Maddox, an experienced swimmer with the Carmel Swim Club, immediately entered the water.

Working together, the brothers managed to bring the grandmother and her four-year-old grandchild safely toward shore.

But just when it appeared that everyone had been rescued, Maddox realized someone was still missing.

A Two-Year-Old Was Still Inside the Stroller

The younger child remained trapped in the submerged stroller.

Maddox quickly released the stroller’s restraints and lifted the little boy from the water.

He tilted the child to help clear water and patted his back. Moments later, the toddler coughed up water and began breathing again.

Meanwhile, Grant called 911 to summon emergency assistance.

Emergency Responders Arrive

When Carmel firefighters and police officers arrived at approximately 11:15 a.m., both children had already been rescued from the pond.

The children were conscious and crying as emergency personnel took over the situation.

Local public safety officials credited the brothers’ immediate actions with preventing a potentially devastating tragedy.

Young Heroes to Receive Official Recognition

The extraordinary actions of Maddox and Grant drew praise from Carmel emergency responders, who emphasized that ordinary people can make a lifesaving difference during unexpected emergencies.

The brothers are scheduled to receive formal recognition at a Carmel City Council meeting on November 16.

What began as an ordinary day for two teenagers became an unforgettable rescue that gave an entire family another chance to return home together.
