Doctors Said Her 7-Month-Old Baby Had Just 24 Hours Left — Then a Mother Faced the Longest 10 Hours of Her Life
When Brianna welcomed her daughter Ella into the world, she never imagined that just seven months later, she would be facing the possibility of losing her little girl.
After six visits to different doctors, Ella’s family finally received a devastating diagnosis: their baby had an extremely rare congenital heart defect affecting approximately one in every 300,000 babies.
Without treatment, around 90 percent of affected infants do not survive.
But the most frightening news was still to come.
Only 24 Hours Left to Save Her Baby
When doctors at another hospital finally identified Ella’s condition, they immediately recognized how serious her situation had become.
Her parents were told to take her to Boston Children’s Hospital without delay.
According to the hospital’s account, Ella had only about 24 hours left to live without urgent intervention.
For Brianna, the ordinary worries of motherhood had suddenly been replaced by an unimaginable fear: whether her daughter would survive long enough to receive the treatment she desperately needed.
A 10-Hour Surgery and Three Weeks in a Coma
At Boston Children’s Hospital, specialists began the race to save Ella’s life.
The seven-month-old underwent open-heart surgery lasting approximately ten hours.
Her medical journey continued long after the operation ended.
Ella spent three weeks in a medically induced coma as her medical team cared for her.
In total, she remained at Boston Children’s Hospital for eight weeks.
For her family, every stage of her recovery carried enormous meaning.

The Day Her Family Finally Brought Her Home
After weeks of specialized treatment, Ella made a remarkable recovery.
The little girl who had once faced a life-threatening diagnosis was finally well enough to leave the hospital.
Her parents could bring their daughter home, something that had seemed heartbreakingly uncertain just weeks earlier.
Grateful for the people who helped save Ella, Brianna and her family decided they wanted to support other children facing similarly frightening medical journeys.
Ella’s Army: Turning Gratitude Into Hope
In 2023, the family gathered friends and supporters to create a fundraising team called Ella’s Army.
Through their participation in the Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital, they raised approximately $30,000 in their first year.
Their efforts continued, raising another $23,500 in 2024.
In 2025, the family and their supporters raised an additional $62,300 through fundraising activities.
Altogether, Ella’s Army contributed $115,500 over three years to support the hospital and its work helping children.
The Little Girl Who Once Had 24 Hours Left Is Now Learning Ballet
According to the hospital’s published account, Ella has grown into a happy, energetic little girl.
Her heart now functions normally, and she enjoys spending time with her older brother and younger sister.
She has even begun learning ballet.
For Brianna, these everyday childhood experiences represent a future her family once feared Ella might never have.
From a terrifying diagnosis and ten hours of heart surgery to dancing and playing with her siblings, Ella’s journey is a moving reminder of what timely medical care can make possible.
And through Ella’s Army, her family continues turning their gratitude into support for other children still fighting their own battles.
