Puppy with a Crooked Snout Was Returned After Adoption — Now He’s Thriving in His Forever Home

A dachshund puppy whose unusual facial appearance made his journey to finding a home more complicated is now living a happy, healthy life with a family that embraces everything that makes him different.

Newt, originally named Twister, was just 11 weeks old when Melanie Price first saw his photo online. The puppy had a visibly crooked snout after reportedly suffering a traumatic jaw injury that went untreated before he was rescued.

According to Price, Newt was rescued by Dream-A-Dream Dachshunds in Pflugerville, Texas, along with other dogs from a breeder. After receiving care, he was adopted by a family, but he was eventually returned when the other dogs in the household did not accept him.

Price had already been thinking about the puppy when her husband secretly submitted an adoption application. The family was approved, giving Newt another opportunity to find a permanent home.

When Newt arrived, Price worried about how her existing dogs might react. Instead, they welcomed him, and he quickly formed a close bond with Luna, who became his companion and helped him settle into his new surroundings.

Now in his third home, Newt is described by Price as playful, confident and full of personality. He can eat and drink independently, using a specially shaped bowl that helps him reach his food. His family says he has no breathing problems, and they have not considered surgery because they believe it would be purely cosmetic.

Price has also been sharing Newt’s life on social media, where his distinctive appearance and cheerful behavior have attracted attention. Although some negative comments appear, she says many people respond emotionally to his videos and are moved by his story.

For Price, Newt’s appearance is not something that needs to be corrected. She says he can do the same things as other dogs, and his differences have not stopped him from enjoying life.

Newt’s journey is a reminder that an animal’s unusual appearance does not determine its ability to thrive or the love it can bring to a family.
