Kentucky Police Officer’s Wife Indicted in Alleged Sexual Abuse of Young Relative

A 31-year-old Kentucky woman married to a police officer has been indicted on four criminal charges involving the alleged sexual abuse of a child younger than 12, according to court records cited in media reports.
Lauren Winans, of Bardstown, Kentucky, was indicted by a Nelson County grand jury over alleged offenses said to have occurred between January and November 2022. The charges include two counts of first-degree sodomy, one count of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of incest, according to reports.
The indictment alleges that Winans engaged in prohibited sexual acts involving a young family member. Authorities have not publicly clarified the exact relationship between Winans and the child, or whether the child referenced in the incest allegation is the same person identified in the other charges.
Winans was arrested following the indictment and reportedly had her bond set at $250,000. She is scheduled to appear in Nelson Circuit Court for arraignment on November 5, 2026.
If convicted of the most serious charge, she could face a lengthy prison sentence, potentially including life imprisonment, according to published reports. The eventual penalties would depend on the outcome of the court proceedings.

The case is being investigated by Kentucky State Police. Officials have emphasized that the allegations concern Winans and that there is no reported evidence linking her husband to the alleged offenses.
The charges have not been proven in court. Winans is presumed innocent unless and until she is found guilty through the legal process.
