Father and 18-Year-Old Daughter Killed in Horrific UTV Rollover After Family Lunch

A Minnesota family is mourning an unimaginable double loss after a father and his 18-year-old daughter were killed when their utility terrain vehicle rolled over multiple times while they were riding home from lunch with relatives.

Jacob Jeurissen, 48, and his daughter, Kiara, died in the crash on Friday, October 16, in Macville Township, a rural area of Aitkin County, Minnesota.

According to authorities, the pair were traveling in a 2018 Polaris RZR Turbo 1000 along 600th Lane at approximately 2:30 p.m. when the vehicle overturned repeatedly. Family members were riding behind them and witnessed the devastating crash before calling 911.

Aitkin County Sheriff Daniel Guida said both victims suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found that Jacob and Kiara were wearing five-point safety harnesses but were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Officials have said speed may have been a contributing factor, although the precise cause of the rollover has not yet been determined.

The family had been spending time together over lunch before the tragedy occurred on their journey home. What should have been an ordinary afternoon together ended in a loss that relatives and friends are struggling to comprehend.

Jacob’s wife and Kiara’s mother, Amanda Jeurissen, spoke about the devastating impact of losing both her husband and daughter. She said they were deeply loved and would be missed by many.

A family friend has established a fundraiser to help Amanda and the surviving family members cope with funeral expenses and the emotional and financial challenges ahead.

The deaths have also prompted renewed attention to safety when operating off-road vehicles. Although seat belts and harnesses can help keep occupants secured, helmets and other appropriate safety equipment are important in reducing the risk of serious injury.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No final determination about its cause has been announced.

For the Jeurissen family, the loss of a husband and daughter in the same incident has left an enormous void. As loved ones prepare to say goodbye, they are remembering Jacob and Kiara for the lives they lived and the people who will continue to miss them.
