Four Children Rescued From Alleged Trafficking Reunited With Their Families in India

Pakur, Jharkhand, India — September 28, 2026

Four children from India’s Pahariya community have been reunited with their families after being rescued in Bokaro while allegedly being taken to another state under the promise of employment.

The children, aged between 10 and 14, were rescued about a month ago after authorities became concerned that they were being taken to Kerala. Officials said the children were brought back to Pakur and placed under the care of the local child protection system.

Children Returned to Their Families

The four children appeared before the Pakur Child Welfare Committee on Saturday as officials worked to verify their identities and family details.

Two children were handed back to their families after their documents and information were verified on Saturday. The remaining two were reunited with their parents on Sunday.

The reunions brought the children back to their families after weeks away from home.

Authorities Investigate the Circumstances

Officials said the children had allegedly been taken with the promise of jobs outside Jharkhand. Children from economically vulnerable communities can be particularly exposed to people offering work opportunities far from their homes.

The district administration and Child Welfare Committee are continuing efforts to identify people involved in taking minors to other states and to strengthen monitoring in areas where such recruitment is reported.

Families Urged to Stay Alert

Officials said awareness programmes are also being conducted in communities to warn families about the risks associated with unverified employment offers involving children.

For the four families in Pakur, the process ended with their children safely returning home after being rescued and placed under official protection.
