The Miller Family Secret PART 2 — THE HIDDEN INHERITANCE

The Miller Family Secret
PART 2 — THE HIDDEN INHERITANCE
By the time we arrived in Phoenix, I had made three phone calls.
The first was to my lawyer, Michael Grant. The second was to a financial adviser who had managed my inheritance for years. The third was to Teresa.
She still wasn’t answering.
My sister welcomed us into her home, and the girls went upstairs to unpack. I stayed downstairs, staring at the photograph Teresa had sent.
“Brenda, what’s going on?” my sister asked.
“I think Raymond’s father left something for my daughters. Something Raymond has been hiding.”
Michael arrived an hour later. After examining the photograph and the documents I had saved, his expression became serious.
“Brenda, do you remember Walter mentioning a family trust before he died?”
I nodded slowly.
“He said he wanted to make sure his grandchildren would always be protected.”
Michael opened his briefcase.
“Then I think we need to find the original trust agreement.”
At that moment, my phone rang.
It was Teresa.
“Mrs. Miller,” she whispered. “I’m safe, but I can’t stay here long.”
“Tell me what you found.”
“Walter created a trust eight years ago. He left forty million dollars for his grandchildren. But there was one condition.”
“What condition?”
“All his grandchildren were supposed to receive equal shares, regardless of whether they were boys or girls.”
I felt my stomach tighten.
“Then why didn’t my daughters receive anything?”
“Because Raymond changed the paperwork after Walter died. He told everyone the trust was intended only for the first male heir.”
Michael immediately leaned forward.
“Does Teresa have proof?”
I put the call on speaker.
“Yes,” Teresa answered. “Walter recorded a video before his death. He specifically mentioned Brenda and all four girls. He said they were the children he wanted to protect.”
My eyes filled with tears.
For sixteen years, Walter had been the only person in that family who never made my daughters feel inferior.
“What happened to the video?” I asked.
“It’s in the bottom drawer of his study. Along with the original documents.”
Suddenly, Teresa lowered her voice.
“There’s something else. Leo’s birth certificate doesn’t match the information Raymond gave the family.”
Michael exchanged a look with me.
“What do you mean?” he asked.

“Walter’s private investigator discovered that Raymond had been secretly involved with Florence’s former assistant years before Leo was born. But the investigator was never able to confirm the boy’s biological father.”
Before Teresa could explain further, the call ended.
Michael stood up.
“We need to act carefully. If those documents are genuine, Raymond could face serious legal consequences.”
I looked toward the staircase, where my four daughters were laughing together for the first time that day.
“They deserve to know their grandfather didn’t forget them.”
That evening, I made a decision.
I wasn’t going to return to San Diego to beg for anything.
I was going back to claim what belonged to my daughters.
And this time, Raymond would have to face me.
