Michigan Student Accused of Campus Assault Allegedly Threatened Jewish Activist After Being Released by Police

A University of Michigan student who was arrested after allegedly shoving a Jewish activist to the ground during a campus confrontation reportedly made a disturbing comment about having previously been treated at a mental health facility.

The incident took place on November 1, 2026, at the university’s Ann Arbor campus during an event organized by Liberty Under Fire USA. The group had set up a discussion table addressing Islam and its compatibility with Western values.

According to Jewish activist Lizzie Benichou, the confrontation began when a student approached the group and started arguing with participants. Benichou said the exchange escalated after she questioned what would happen to the student if she dressed the same way in Iran.

Benichou alleged that the student then shoved her to the ground. Video footage circulated online appears to show the physical confrontation, followed by officers intervening and taking the student into custody.

As the student was being escorted away, she allegedly shouted a threat directed at Benichou. The activist later told Fox News that the woman said she had previously been in a mental institution and would be willing to return if it meant she could kill her.

The New York Post identified the student as Temulun Togochog, citing online posts and information shared after the incident. However, university police have not publicly confirmed her identity.

The University of Michigan Police Department said officers responded to a noise complaint at approximately 5 p.m. and found that the event had not been authorized. As the group was packing up, officers witnessed a student push a woman to the ground.

The student was taken into custody, processed and released. Police said the incident would be forwarded to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review. The woman who was pushed, who is not affiliated with the university, received medical treatment and was released.

Benichou later said she was safe and receiving care. She also stated that the incident would not stop her from speaking publicly.

The university has not announced any criminal charges. The prosecutor’s office will review the case, and the allegations have not been adjudicated.
