Twins Welcome Baby Girl After Sister Becomes Their Surrogate

Melbourne, Australia — September 2026

A Melbourne family has welcomed a baby girl after a remarkable journey that saw a woman carry a child for her twin brother and his husband.

Ellie Freeman became a surrogate for her twin brother, Adam Braitberg, and his husband, Omer Kuchman. Their daughter, Gali, was born in Melbourne earlier this year after Ellie carried the pregnancy to full term.

A Sister Offered to Help

Adam and Omer had been considering surrogacy when Ellie’s older sister, Jess, offered to donate her eggs. Ellie then volunteered to carry the pregnancy.

The arrangement meant that Jess would provide the egg while Omer provided the sperm, allowing the baby to have a biological connection to both of Gali’s parents.

Ellie already had three children of her own and said she wanted to help her twin brother become a father.

A Medical Check Changed Everything

Before the surrogacy process could begin, Ellie underwent routine medical tests. Doctors discovered that she had a genetic condition associated with numerous polyps in the colon.

The discovery led Adam to undergo medical testing as well. Doctors found that he had bowel cancer and a tumour measuring about 10 centimetres.

Adam underwent surgery and later recovered before the family continued with the surrogacy process.

Gali’s Birth

After a successful embryo transfer, Ellie became pregnant. Adam and Omer followed the pregnancy closely, joining medical appointments remotely before eventually moving to Melbourne to be closer to their family.

In May 2026, Ellie gave birth to a baby girl at 39 weeks and six days. Adam and Omer were present for the birth and named their daughter Gali.

Ellie said that after Gali was born, she went directly into the arms of her parents. She later held the newborn herself before handing her back to Adam and Omer.

A Baby Surrounded by Family

Gali is now growing up surrounded by her parents, her two aunts and her cousins. Ellie has also explained the situation to her own children, telling them that the baby she was carrying would become their cousin.

Adam and Omer say they plan to tell Gali about the unusual circumstances of her birth when she is old enough to understand.

For the family, Gali’s arrival has brought everyone even closer together and created a story that began with two twins who grew up together and continued into the next generation.
