Nine Adults and a Dog Rescued From Flooded Motels in New Jersey
Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USA — September 28, 2026
Nine adults and a dog were rescued from two flooded motels in New Jersey after powerful coastal flooding left several first-floor rooms under several feet of water during a nor’easter.
Emergency Crews Find Flooded Rooms
The rescue operation began on the morning of September 26 in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township.
The Pleasantville Fire Department was sent to check on guests at the Travel Inn and New Sea Breeze motels after severe weather affected the area. When firefighters arrived, they found between two and three feet of water inside first-floor rooms.
Several guests were still inside the affected areas, prompting emergency crews to begin an immediate evacuation.
Nine Adults and a Dog Taken to Safety
The Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company arrived with a high-water rescue vehicle and helped remove nine adults and one dog from the flooded rooms.
One of the rescued adults was using a wheelchair. The group was taken to the Egg Harbor Township Community Center, where a warming center had been established and emergency personnel provided assistance.
Officials later helped the guests find temporary accommodation on the second floors of the motels after conditions improved.

Firefighters Discover Another Danger
While carrying out a second inspection of the buildings, firefighters discovered a small fire inside one of the rooms at the Travel Inn.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and authorities reported no injuries from the incident.
Multiple local departments assisted with the response, including emergency medical services, public works personnel, parks and recreation staff and police officers.
Rescue Comes During Severe Coastal Weather
The rescue took place as a nor’easter brought strong winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding across parts of the northeastern United States.
In Egg Harbor Township, the flooding created dangerous conditions inside low-lying motel rooms, making the high-water rescue vehicle essential for reaching and evacuating the guests.
The coordinated response allowed all nine adults and the dog to reach a safer location without reported injuries.
