Ed Sheeran’s scheduled weekend concerts at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts have been canceled because of hazardous weather conditions, the Robert Kraft-owned venue announced Friday.

The concerts planned for Friday and Saturday night were called off following consultations with local officials, the event promoter and Sheeran’s tour team. Organizers cited severe weather warnings issued for Boston and across New England throughout the weekend.

The venue said the decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the concerts as the top priority. Ticket holders were told that refunds would be available.

The cancellation comes as Sheeran’s tour continues to face controversy surrounding former opening act Macklemore and the rapper’s public comments about the conflict in Gaza.

Macklemore said earlier this month that he had been removed from Sheeran’s remaining U.S. tour dates. He publicly blamed Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, claiming Kraft had pressured Sheeran over Macklemore’s continued participation in the tour.

Kraft acknowledged that he intended to prevent Macklemore from performing at Gillette Stadium. In a statement, he cited Macklemore’s recent actions and material shared from the stage during Sheeran’s shows in New Jersey, as well as what Kraft described as a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery.

The controversy intensified after Sheeran’s opening acts and backing band reportedly resigned in solidarity with Macklemore.

Sheeran addressed the situation during a concert in Philadelphia last Saturday, opening the show with an apology for what he described as his own mistakes.

The latest cancellation is also part of a wider series of concert and festival disruptions caused by severe weather along the U.S. East Coast.

An early-season nor’easter moving toward the East Coast from the Carolinas to Maine has also led organizers to cancel Maryland’s Oceans Calling festival in Ocean City. Tides, flooding and high winds had already disrupted preparations for the three-day event.

The promoters of Oceans Calling said they made the decision after consulting the National Weather Service and local officials, citing safety concerns.

New York’s Global Citizen Festival, scheduled for Saturday in Central Park, was also canceled because of the forecast. Organizers said it was the first cancellation of the event in 14 years and emphasized that safety was the priority.

The All Things Go Festival in Forest Hills, New York, which had been scheduled to run from Friday through Sunday, was also canceled.

For Sheeran fans, the Gillette Stadium cancellations add another disruption to a tour already facing public controversy, while officials continue to monitor dangerous weather conditions across the region.
