Human Remains Found Near Area Where Jason Landry Disappeared
LULING, Texas — September 19, 2026

Human remains have been discovered near the area where Texas State University student Jason Landry disappeared nearly six years ago, prompting renewed attention to one of Texas’ long-running missing-person cases.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said deputies recently responded to a report of skeletal remains in the 1400 block of Biggs Road, near the intersection with Salt Flat Road outside Luling. Authorities have not identified the remains or confirmed a connection to Landry.

The discovery was reported on September 18. Investigators are conducting additional examinations to determine whether the remains can be identified and whether they are connected to any known missing-person cases.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while the examination is underway. The sheriff’s office said additional information will be released when it becomes available.

The location has drawn particular attention because it is close to Salt Flat Road, where Landry’s vehicle was found abandoned after a crash in December 2020.

Jason Landry Disappeared in 2020
Landry was 21 when he disappeared while driving from Texas State University in San Marcos to his family’s home in Missouri City for the Christmas holidays.

His crashed vehicle was discovered on Salt Flat Road in the early hours of December 14, 2020. His cellphone and several personal belongings were found in or near the vehicle, but Landry was nowhere to be found.

The Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit took over the investigation in 2022. Investigators have conducted searches and reviewed forensic, digital and other evidence over the years, but Landry has never been located.

Identity Has Not Been Confirmed
Despite the location of the discovery, authorities have not said that the remains belong to Landry.

Investigators are expected to use available forensic evidence, potentially including DNA and dental records, to establish the identity. The process could take time depending on the condition of the remains and the evidence available.

For now, the discovery remains an active investigation, and authorities are asking people to avoid drawing conclusions until identification is completed.
