Husband Who Dumped Wife’s Body in a Suitcase Sentenced to Life in Prison

A disturbing case in London ended with a life sentence for Aminan Rahman, who killed his 24-year-old wife, Suma Begum, and disposed of her body in a suitcase, according to court proceedings reported by the BBC.

The court heard that Rahman attacked Begum at their home in east London on April 29, 2023, while she was on a video call with another man. Prosecutors said he strangled her before placing her in a suitcase and dumping it in the River Lea.

The suitcase was discovered on a riverbank about 10 days later, leading investigators to uncover the tragic circumstances surrounding her death.

During sentencing, the judge said Rahman had attempted to conceal what happened by telling lies about his wife’s disappearance. The court also heard that Begum had experienced abuse during their marriage and had hoped for a different future.

Rahman was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 22 years before he can apply for release on licence.

The case left Begum’s family grieving a young woman whose life ended in deeply distressing circumstances.
