Kansas Driver Convicted in Death of Teacher, Months After Her Husband Was Killed
TOPEKA, KANSAS — September 23, 2026

A Kansas judge has convicted a driver in the 2024 death of elementary school teacher Ashleigh Boyd, just days after a Louisiana jury convicted a woman in the separate drugging death of Boyd’s husband, television sports reporter Adan Manzano.

The two tragedies left the couple’s young daughter, Eleanor, without both parents before she turned three. Her grandparents are now raising her.

Driver Convicted in Fatal Crash
Todd W. Armstrong was found guilty on September 21 of vehicular homicide, speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road following a one-day bench trial in Topeka.

Boyd, 24, was killed on April 11, 2024, when Armstrong’s Ford F-150 crossed into her lane and collided head-on with her vehicle.

Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene. Her infant daughter, who was also in the vehicle, survived the crash.

Court records indicated Armstrong had been driving at about 63 mph in a 45 mph zone and was on the wrong side of the roadway when the collision occurred.

Armstrong had pleaded not guilty. He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 13, 2026.

Her Husband Died 10 Months Later
Boyd’s husband, Adan Manzano, was a 27-year-old sports reporter for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports.

In February 2025, Manzano traveled to New Orleans to cover Super Bowl LIX. He was later found dead in a hotel room in the suburb of Kenner.

Investigators determined that Manzano had been drugged and robbed. A Louisiana jury recently convicted Danette Colbert of negligent homicide in his death and also convicted her and Rickey White of racketeering.

Colbert and White are scheduled to be sentenced later this month.

Their Daughter Is Being Raised by Her Grandparents
After losing their daughter and son-in-law less than a year apart, Brian and Nicole Hinck are raising Eleanor.

The grandparents have tried to protect the child from the details surrounding her parents’ deaths.

The family has now faced two separate criminal cases connected to the deaths of Eleanor’s parents, with the latest conviction coming in Kansas this week.

Armstrong’s sentencing will determine the punishment for Boyd’s death, while the Louisiana defendants will face their own sentencing in the separate case involving Manzano.
