Meghan Markle Breaks Her Silence After Disturbing Allegations Against Her Father Thomas Markle

Meghan Markle says she is “deeply distressed” after allegations involving her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., emerged publicly, revealing that concerns about his alleged conduct had reportedly reached authorities years earlier.

In a statement to PEOPLE published on October 23, 2026, the Duchess of Sussex said her thoughts were with any children who may have been harmed. She also explained that a letter containing troubling allegations about her father had been sent to London’s Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection in 2018.

Meghan said the letter was subsequently shared with her and that she had been assured the allegations were being investigated. She added that her decision to remain distant from her father and prevent him from having contact with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, was made to protect them.

The allegations surfaced after Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan’s half-brother, claimed he discovered large quantities of suspected child sexual abuse material at their father’s property in Cebu, Philippines. According to a report by The Sun, he said the material included images and videos involving children and that he reported his findings to law enforcement agencies.

The FBI reportedly confirmed receiving an affidavit from Thomas Jr., while Philippine authorities were reported to have established a task force to investigate the claims. The allegations remain subject to investigation.

Thomas Markle Sr. has denied the accusations, describing them as lies and expressing shock and hurt over his son’s claims, according to subsequent media reports.

Thomas Jr. said the discovery had left him horrified and that he felt compelled to report what he claimed to have found. He also said he would no longer maintain contact with his father unless required to testify.

The allegations have renewed public attention on the long-standing estrangement between Meghan and her father, who was absent from her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Meghan’s statement suggests that concerns about her father had become part of her decision to keep her children away from him.
