Ohio Son Accused of Killing Missing Father Six Years After Disappearance — But His Body Was Never Found

For six years, Alvin Darrow remained missing. Then, in October 2023, authorities in Ohio announced that his son had been indicted in connection with his disappearance, despite investigators never finding the father’s body.

Alvin Darrow Jr., 63, was last seen on July 27, 2017, in Toledo, Ohio. According to police, he had been working on a boating project with his other son, Jeremy, before heading home to retrieve some tools. He never returned, and his family reported him missing the following day.

Investigators said Alvin had left personal belongings at home and had not arranged for anyone to care for his dog, behavior they considered unusual for him.

Police reported that Alvin and his son Timothy Darrow, then 39, had argued on the day Alvin disappeared. According to investigators, no one had heard from Alvin afterward.

In October 2023, a grand jury indicted Timothy on two counts of open murder related to his father’s disappearance. At the time, Timothy was already in custody on an unrelated felonious assault charge.

Investigators also charged Timothy’s friend, Michael Johnson, with obstruction of justice. Police alleged that Johnson had hindered the investigation. In an interview with local media, Johnson acknowledged helping Timothy move a barrel and described assisting with scrapping a car, burning items and digging.

Despite the indictment, Alvin’s remains had not been recovered, leaving major questions about what happened to him.

The case later took a significant turn. In August 2024, Timothy Darrow was found not guilty of the murder charges, according to local television station WTVG. Johnson’s obstruction charges were also reportedly dropped.

Alvin’s disappearance remains a troubling case for his family, who have spent years seeking answers about what happened to him.
