What began as a fight for justice has turned into a story of love and resilience. Two former students who worked together to expose alleged sexual abuse at their Islamic boarding school have now become husband and wife.

Yusron Azzahidi and Ziadatur Rahmah, known as Zia, were once students at an Islamic boarding school in Lombok, Indonesia. Their lives changed after they began investigating allegations of sexual abuse involving their former head teacher, Ahmad Imanuddin Sumar, also known as “Abah.”

Yusron became involved after Zia shared her experience of alleged abuse. Determined to uncover the truth, he began collecting testimonies from former students and documenting their accounts. Together, they sought to bring the allegations to the attention of authorities and organizations responsible for overseeing the school.

Their efforts, however, were met with pressure and obstacles. Some former students reportedly faced attempts to silence them, while others struggled with the emotional impact of speaking out. Yusron also faced difficulties within his own family, eventually leading him to pause parts of his investigation.

Despite the challenges, his connection with Zia continued to grow. Their shared experiences created a strong bond, and what began as a partnership in the pursuit of justice gradually developed into a romantic relationship.

The couple maintained a long-distance relationship while pursuing their studies in different countries. Eventually, Yusron moved to Cairo to be closer to Zia, and their relationship progressed toward marriage.

Their story reflects the complex realities faced by survivors and those who support them, while also highlighting how trust and solidarity can develop during difficult circumstances. Although their personal journey has reached a new chapter, questions surrounding the allegations and the pursuit of accountability remain central to the wider case.
