Pregnant Mother, 31, Killed in Spirit Halloween Store Shooting as Six Others Are Wounded

A pregnant 31-year-old woman was killed and six other people were wounded when gunfire erupted inside a Spirit Halloween store in Northern California on the eve of Halloween.
The shooting happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30, at the store inside Solano Town Center in Fairfield. Families and shoppers were reportedly inside the shopping center preparing for Halloween when the gunfire sent people running for safety.
Police identified the woman who died as Constance Hages. Her family told investigators that she was pregnant at the time of the shooting. Authorities said the pregnancy information would be confirmed through the county coroner’s examination.
Six male victims, ranging in age from 16 to 43, were also shot.
Three victims, aged 16, 19 and 32, were initially reported in critical condition. A 23-year-old man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while two other men, aged 19 and 43, were treated and released.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as shoppers tried to escape. Some reportedly ran through an employee hallway, while others forced open a security gate to reach the mall.
Fairfield police said preliminary evidence indicated that the shooting was a targeted incident involving one suspect. However, authorities have not publicly identified the intended target or explained what may have led to the attack.
As of the latest reports, no arrests had been announced. Detectives were reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible. The FBI’s Sacramento office was assisting with the investigation.
The shooting prompted Solano Town Center to cancel its planned Halloween trick-or-treating event. The Spirit Halloween store also remained closed while investigators continued their work.
The killing has left the local community shaken, particularly because the shooting took place in a retail store where families had been shopping just hours before Halloween.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Fairfield Police Department at 707-428-7600
