Remains Identified After Two Years
Human remains recovered from a wooded area in Cloud Lake, Nova Scotia, have been identified as those of Esther Jones, who disappeared in August 2024.

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit located the remains on September 9. The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service later confirmed the identity.

Police said Jones was the victim of a homicide.

Man Already Charged With First-Degree Murder
Jones’ disappearance had been under investigation since 2024.

In September 2024, police charged Dale Allen Toole of Tremont with first-degree murder in connection with her disappearance.

According to the RCMP, Toole was located by U.S. authorities at an airport in Texas while attempting to flee to Mexico. He was subsequently returned to Canada and arrested after arriving in Toronto.

Remains Found More Than Two Years Later
The discovery in Cloud Lake provides investigators with the recovery of Jones’ remains more than two years after she disappeared.

The RCMP said the investigation and court process have continued since the original homicide investigation began.

Police credited the work of investigators and their policing partners, as well as support from Jones’ family and the local community, for helping advance the case.

Family Hopes for Closure
Cpl. Mike Robinson of the Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit said investigators hope the recovery will help answer outstanding questions and bring a measure of closure and healing to those closest to Jones.

The RCMP said its thoughts remain with Jones’ loved ones as the case continues through the justice system.
