A 14-year-old boy was killed after a Russian drone struck a 16-storey apartment building in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district during an overnight barrage on Friday, September 25, 2026, Ukrainian authorities said.

The drone hit the building between the 10th and 11th floors after air-raid warnings were issued across the Ukrainian capital. At least seven people were initially reported injured, including a nine-year-old boy, as emergency crews evacuated residents and searched through shattered glass and debris.

The number of injured across Kyiv later rose to 20, with eight people taken to hospital for treatment. Several buildings were damaged in the Podilskyi and Solomianskyi districts, while another drone struck a five-storey non-residential building in Shevchenkivskyi district.

The latest attack came one day after ballistic missile strikes killed two people and injured eight others in Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said eight regions came under Russian attack overnight. Ukrainian authorities reported that 282 attack drones, along with several types of missiles, had been launched during the assault.

The southern city of Odesa was also targeted, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Russia said its forces were targeting Ukrainian defence and logistics facilities and denied deliberately attacking civilians. Russian authorities also reported casualties following Ukrainian long-range strikes.

The latest barrage came amid continued Russian attacks across Ukraine, with authorities warning residents in several regions to take shelter as drones and missiles were detected.
