The Last Goodbye END — THE LAST GOODBYE

The Last Goodbye
END — THE LAST GOODBYE
Six months later, Claire signed the final divorce papers.
She received nothing from Vincent’s empire because she didn’t want anything that would keep her connected to him.
She had her own savings, a small business she had started with a friend, and a life that finally belonged to her.
Her days were filled with simple pleasures: morning coffee, flowers from the local market, charity work, and evenings spent with people who genuinely cared about her.
Vincent, meanwhile, returned to Chicago.
His empire remained powerful, but something inside him had changed.
He stopped bringing women to his hotels. He no longer celebrated his victories with expensive parties. Sometimes, he would sit alone in his office, staring at the photograph from their wedding.
He never remarried.
One year after their divorce, an envelope arrived at Claire’s house.
There was no return address, only her name written in familiar handwriting.
Inside was a short letter.
Claire,
I finally understand that you weren’t asking me to give up my empire. You were asking me to make room for you in my life.
I thought you would always forgive me. I was wrong.
I’m sorry for every birthday, every anniversary, every lonely night, and every promise I broke.
I won’t ask you to come back. I only hope that wherever you are, you’re happy.
Vincent.
Claire read the letter quietly.
Then she folded it, placed it inside a drawer, and walked outside.
The ocean breeze touched her face as she watched the golden sunlight disappear beyond the horizon.
For a moment, she remembered the young woman who had once stood in a beautiful mansion, waiting for her husband to come home.
She felt sorry for that woman.
But she no longer wanted to be her.
Claire smiled and whispered:
“Goodbye, Vincent.”
And this time, it wasn’t a goodbye spoken through tears.
It was a goodbye spoken by a woman who had finally chosen herself.
THE END.
