Three young NFL quarterbacks — Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders and Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants — suffered injuries during Week 2, raising questions about their availability for upcoming games.

Williams was injured during Chicago’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings after going down without contact in the fourth quarter. Daniels dislocated his left elbow during Washington’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, while Dart suffered a significant-looking knee injury during the Giants’ Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

The severity and expected recovery time differed for each quarterback, with teams continuing to evaluate their conditions.

Caleb Williams

Williams appeared to suffer a serious injury late in Chicago’s game against Minnesota. On a first-and-goal play from the 6-yard line, the quarterback faked a handoff and moved to his left before suddenly collapsing to the ground.

Williams remained down in pain and was eventually taken from the field on a cart. Despite the initial concern, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Monday that the quarterback appeared to have avoided the worst-case scenario.

NBC NFL insider Mike Florio reported that Williams was believed to have suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Johnson said Williams would be considered week-to-week and that the team had not ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Johnson said Williams was working through available treatment options in an effort to return as quickly as possible, while declining to establish a specific timetable.

If Williams is unable to play, Chicago could turn to Case Keenum. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, who finished the game against Minnesota, was reportedly in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Jayden Daniels

Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow during Washington’s loss to Dallas. The injury occurred when the quarterback fell near the Cowboys’ end zone and extended his left arm to brace himself.

His elbow buckled as he landed, leaving Daniels on the field in obvious pain. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn later confirmed the dislocation and said an X-ray showed no fracture.

Daniels’ injury is particularly notable because he experienced problems with the same elbow during the previous season. He missed multiple games in 2025 after dislocating the elbow against the Seattle Seahawks, returned against the Minnesota Vikings and later aggravated the injury.

Quinn said there were no additional updates on Monday as Daniels continued to seek medical opinions about his recovery timeline.

Marcus Mariota is expected to take over at quarterback while Daniels is unavailable. Daniels had previously helped lead Washington to the NFC championship game during the 2024-25 season.

Jaxson Dart

Dart suffered a knee injury during the Giants’ Monday night game against the Rams after two Los Angeles defenders converged on him during a pass play.

Rams pass rusher Josaiah Stewart collided with Dart’s lower body, causing the quarterback’s left knee to bend awkwardly. Dart was able to walk off the field under his own power and later returned to the sideline in street clothes.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh initially said the fact that Dart could walk off the field was encouraging and that the team had avoided the most devastating possible outcome.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport subsequently reported that Dart was believed to have suffered an MCL sprain. Harbaugh did not immediately confirm whether Dart would miss Week 3, saying the team was waiting for additional imaging.

However, reports on Tuesday indicated that Dart’s injury could be more serious than initially believed. Rapoport reported that the quarterback could miss an extended period and that an absence for the remainder of the season was possible.

Jameis Winston took over at quarterback after Dart left the game and would be expected to start if Dart is unable to play.

The three injuries come early in the season and leave the Bears, Commanders and Giants awaiting further medical evaluations before determining their quarterbacks’ availability for upcoming games.
