Two Philippine Police Officers Arrested After Civilian Is Shot in Cagayan de Oro

Two active-duty police officers have been arrested after a civilian was shot and wounded in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippine authorities said.

The shooting occurred late Monday night, September 21, in Sitio Lumboy, Barangay Indahag. Police received a report of gunfire at about 9:54 p.m. and sent officers to the area.

Responding officers found a 38-year-old man suffering from a gun

shot wound to the upper thigh.

The victim was assisted by people at the scene and transported by a barangay ambulance to Maria Reyna Xavier University Hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Officers Intercepted at Checkpoint

Following the shooting, Cagayan de Oro police issued a citywide alert for the suspected getaway vehicle.

Officers at the Indahag Border Control Point later stopped a gray Yamaha Sniper motorcycle matching the description provided by investigators.

The two riders were identified as active members of the Philippine National Police who were assigned to the same border control post. Both were taken into custody.

Service Firearms Seized
Police confiscated the officers’ issued service firearms for examination. Investigators also recovered a spent cartridge case from the shooting scene.

Authorities said a witness identified one of the detained officers as the alleged shooter. However, the investigation remains ongoing and criminal and administrative complaints are still being prepared.

The two officers are being held at the Maharlika Detention Facility while investigators gather additional evidence.

Investigation Continues
Cagayan de Oro City Police Office Director Col. Dexter Paje said the case would undergo the appropriate legal and investigative procedures.

Police have not yet established a public motive for the shooting. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the incident and the role of each officer.

The two officers remain accused, not convicted, and the case is subject to further investigation and legal proceedings.
