Wisconsin Woman Sentenced to Life After Shocking Murder and Dismemberment of Former Boyfriend

Wisconsin Woman’s Murder Trial Begins in Shocking Case Involving the Death and Dismemberment of Shad Thyrion

A Wisconsin woman accused of killing and dismembering a man in Green Bay faced trial in July 2023, in a case that drew national attention because of its disturbing allegations and dramatic courtroom developments.

Taylor Schabusiness, 25, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, third-degree sexual assault, and mutilating a corpse in connection with the February 2022 death of Shad Thyrion, who was 24 or 25, according to different reports.

Prosecutors alleged that Schabusiness strangled Thyrion at the home he shared with his mother before sexually abusing him and dismembering his body. Investigators said body parts were found in different locations inside the house and in a vehicle.

A Case That Shocked the Community

The investigation began in February 2022, when Thyrion’s mother discovered disturbing evidence at the family home and contacted authorities. The discovery led investigators to examine the circumstances of his death and gather evidence against Schabusiness.

The allegations were particularly difficult for the community because of the nature of the crime and the relationship between the accused and the victim. Authorities identified Schabusiness as Thyrion’s former girlfriend.

Schabusiness pleaded not guilty and also entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Before the trial, a judge ruled that she was competent to assist in her own defense, allowing the case to proceed.

Courtroom Incident Adds to the Case’s Dramatic History

The trial followed an incident in February 2023, when Schabusiness attacked her attorney, Quinn Jolly, during a court hearing. A sheriff’s deputy intervened and restrained her.

The incident occurred after the judge agreed to delay the trial so the defense could obtain additional time for an expert to evaluate Schabusiness’s competency. The episode added another unexpected development to a case already receiving widespread attention.

Despite the defense’s concerns about competency and pretrial publicity, the judge declined to move the case to another jurisdiction. Jury selection was completed in July 2023, with 16 jurors selected, including four alternates.

Jury Finds Schabusiness Guilty

The trial began on July 24, 2023. Just days later, on July 26, a jury found Schabusiness guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, third-degree sexual assault, and mutilating a corpse. Reports indicated that jurors deliberated for less than an hour.

The verdict marked a major development in the prosecution of Thyrion’s death. Schabusiness was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The case remains a reminder of the devastating consequences of violent crime and the role of the court system in determining criminal responsibility through evidence and trial proceedings.
