Victim Identified as Daria Serkov
A 15-year-old girl who was killed after being struck by a truck while riding a bicycle in Manhattan’s East Village has been identified as Daria Serkov, police said.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Friday at East 14th Street and First Avenue. Police said the truck was traveling westbound on East 14th Street and turned right onto First Avenue when it struck the two teenagers riding on a Citi Bike.

Second Teen Remains Hospitalized
A second girl, 16, was also injured in the crash and taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Police said she remains hospitalized in stable condition. Initial reports listed her age as 13, but authorities later corrected the information to 16. According to police sources cited by CBS New York, the 16-year-old was operating the bicycle while Serkov was riding as a passenger.

Truck Driver Stayed at Scene
The driver of the commercial truck, a 57-year-old man, remained at the scene after the collision and cooperated with police, according to authorities.

The impact left the Citi Bike trapped underneath the truck. Investigators are examining surveillance footage and other evidence to determine exactly how the crash occurred.

The company associated with the truck, Badger Daylighting, said it is cooperating with the NYPD investigation and expressed condolences to Serkov’s family and those affected by the crash.

Investigation Continues
Police have not announced any charges against the truck driver. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision.

Authorities are also reviewing camera footage from the busy intersection, which could help establish the movements of the truck and bicycle immediately before the crash.

The incident has renewed attention on the dangers cyclists face around large commercial vehicles, particularly at intersections where truck drivers can have limited visibility.
