15-Year-Old Daria Serkov Killed by Truck While Riding Citi Bike in Manhattan

A New York City community is mourning the death of 15-year-old Daria Serkov, who was fatally struck by a commercial truck while riding a Citi Bike with another teenage girl in Manhattan’s East Village.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on September 18, 2026, at the intersection of East 14th Street and First Avenue, according to police. A commercial truck was traveling westbound on East 14th Street and attempting to make a right turn onto First Avenue when it collided with the bicycle carrying the two teenagers.

Both girls were rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Daria, who was identified by police as a 15-year-old Manhattan resident, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her 16-year-old companion, who police said was operating the bicycle, was hospitalized with injuries and was later reported to be in stable condition.

Early reports gave conflicting information about the injured girl’s age, with some outlets initially reporting that she was 13. Police later clarified that she is 16, making the updated police account the more reliable figure.
