Former Bachelor Star Sam Wood Denied Bail After Domestic Violence Charges
A High-Profile Court Appearance
Australian fitness entrepreneur and former reality television star Sam Wood has been denied bail after appearing before a Queensland court over domestic violence charges.
Wood, 46, was arrested in Noosa over the weekend and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and strangulation in a domestic setting. He has remained in custody since his arrest.
Prosecutors Allege a Violent Family Argument
During Thursday’s hearing at Maroochydore Magistrates Court, prosecutors alleged that Wood became involved in a family argument before his wife was assaulted and allegedly choked.
The prosecution told the court that the alleged victim said she feared for her life. Prosecutors also referred to a video-recorded statement and photographs of injuries that were presented during the bail hearing.

His Lawyer Says the Charges Will Be Defended
Wood’s lawyer, Mathew Cuskelly, told the court that his client would defend the charges and suggested that a self-defence argument could potentially be raised.
The defence also argued that Wood had no previous criminal record and should be given an opportunity to receive professional support while dealing with the allegations and the sudden impact on his career.
His Fitness Empire Has Already Been Hit
The court proceedings come after several businesses and professional associates moved to distance themselves from Wood following news of the charges.
The company behind his fitness brands announced that Wood had been stood down, while other commercial partners also ended or suspended their relationships with him. His once highly visible public profile has therefore changed dramatically within days of his arrest.
Wood Will Remain in Custody
The magistrate ultimately refused Wood’s application for bail, meaning he will remain in custody as the legal process continues.
The allegations have not been proven in court. Wood remains entitled to the presumption of innocence, and his lawyer has indicated that the charges will be contested.
