Hospice Woman’s Final Wish Was to Smell a Horse Again — Horses Came to Her Bedside
HER FINAL WISH WAS SIMPLE: TO SMELL A HORSE ONE MORE TIME

When Denise Lee entered hospice care, she had one final wish.
The 79-year-old lifelong horse lover wanted to experience something she had cherished throughout her life one more time: the smell of a horse, the feeling of its breath on her hand and the chance to touch one again.
After Denise shared her wish with her daughter, Joanne Mullarkey, and staff at St. Barnabas House hospice in Worthing, England, Joanne turned to Facebook for help.

Within hours, local pony owner Kerry Saunders offered to bring two of her ponies to the hospice.
The very next morning, Denise got her special visitors.
According to hospice staff, Denise was overwhelmed with happiness when the ponies arrived at her bedside. Family members and caregivers were moved to tears as she reached out to touch the horses.
For Denise, it was more than a visit. It was the return of something deeply meaningful to her after years of illness had kept her away from the animals she loved.

Her daughter later shared that Denise “died peacefully 36 hours later.”
The family said they will forever treasure those final moments.
Sometimes, a person’s final wish isn’t something grand.
Sometimes, it’s simply one last touch, one familiar feeling — and one beautiful memory to carry with you.
