FORMER CHILD ACTOR, 23, KILLED BY TIGER AT WILDLIFE PARK AS HEARTBROKEN FAMILY REVEALS HIS YEARS OF STRUGGLE

A former British child actor who died after entering a tiger enclosure at a wildlife park in England had experienced significant mental health difficulties for several years, his devastated family has revealed.

William Chapman, 23, was fatally attacked by a Siberian tiger named Altai at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

His death has prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, while his family has appealed for privacy and urged the public to stop circulating distressing footage.

A Terrifying Incident at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Emergency services were called to the wildlife park shortly after 1:30 p.m. following reports that a man had entered the tiger enclosure.

Witnesses described seeing Chapman approach the animal after entering the restricted area.

Video recorded shortly before the incident reportedly showed him inside the enclosure, asking visitors to photograph him with the tiger in the background.

Despite the emergency response, Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the tiger remained inside its enclosure and there was no continuing threat to public safety.

His Family Reveals a Long Personal Struggle

In a statement released following his death, Chapman’s family described him as a bright, warm and engaging young man who was deeply loved.

They also revealed that he had experienced significant mental illness over several years and had been prescribed strong medication.

His relatives emphasized that it would be for the coroner to determine whether these circumstances played any role in his death.

No official conclusion has established why Chapman entered the enclosure, and his medical history alone does not explain his actions.

From Child Actor to a Life Cut Tragically Short

Before the tragedy, Chapman had pursued acting as a child and attended Jackie Palmer Stage School in Buckinghamshire.

His screen credits included ITV’s May Contain Nuts and the BBC educational series True Stories.

Following news of his death, his former stage school paid tribute to him, remembering his development both as a performer and as a person.

The school expressed condolences to his family and friends during an exceptionally difficult time.

Family Pleads for Distressing Videos to Stop Circulating

Footage of the fatal incident began spreading across social media shortly after the attack.

Chapman’s family said the circulation of deeply offensive material had intensified their grief and caused them severe distress.

They urged members of the public to stop sharing the footage and to respect their privacy.

Authorities have also discouraged the distribution of graphic videos connected to the incident.

Investigation Continues as Tiger Remains Safe

The City of Doncaster Council has launched a health and safety investigation into the incident, working alongside police and other relevant agencies.

A coroner’s inquest was scheduled to open on October 15 to examine the circumstances surrounding Chapman’s death.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed that Altai, the tiger involved, was safe and would not be euthanized because of the incident.

As investigators work to establish what happened, Chapman’s family continues to mourn a young man whose life ended in circumstances they are still struggling to understand.
