Thai Woman Found Dead in Freezer After Disappearing in Taiwan
TAIPEI, TAIWAN — September 21, 2026

A 36-year-old Thai woman who disappeared after arriving in Taiwan was found dead inside a suitcase stored in a freezer at her boyfriend’s workplace in Taichung, according to Taiwanese police.

Her 43-year-old Taiwanese boyfriend, identified by his surname Wu, has been arrested and detained on suspicion of murder.

Woman Reported Missing
The woman arrived in Taiwan on September 2 and stayed at a hotel in Taipei’s Ximending district.

Her Taiwanese friends reported her missing after they could no longer contact her. Police began reviewing surveillance footage around the hotel as part of the investigation.

Investigators identified Wu as a person of interest after CCTV footage showed him entering the hotel on September 12.

He was later seen leaving the hotel early the following morning while carrying a large black suitcase.

Body Found in Taichung
Police traced the suitcase to Taichung, where Wu worked in an administrative role at a technology company.

Authorities searched the workplace early Saturday and discovered the woman’s body inside a freezer. A preliminary examination indicated that she had died from strangulation.

Police said Wu was subsequently arrested and referred to prosecutors for investigation.

Suspect Allegedly Admitted Strangling Her
According to police, Wu told investigators that he became angry after the woman said she wanted to end their relationship.

He allegedly said he strangled her during an argument and then placed her body inside the suitcase before transporting it from Taipei to Taichung.

The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for about a year after meeting while Wu was traveling in Thailand.

Court Orders Suspect Detained
Prosecutors requested that Wu be detained, citing the seriousness of the suspected murder and concerns that he could flee or destroy evidence.

A Taichung court approved the detention request, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency.

Authorities are continuing forensic examinations and investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The suspect has been accused of murder and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
