19-Year-Old Arrested Over Alleged Mass Shooting Plot Near Chicago, Police Say
A 19-year-old man from suburban Chicago has been arrested after investigators uncovered what police described as a potential plan for a mass shooting. Authorities say the investigation included concerning electronic communications, a rifle and ammunition recovered from the suspect’s home, and a document containing extremist statements.
Police Investigate Warning Messages
Alexandros Paporakis, of Palatine, Illinois, was arrested on October 11, 2026, after a person reported receiving disturbing electronic communications from him, according to Palatine police. The report prompted detectives to investigate whether the messages indicated a possible threat of violence.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for his residence as they worked to determine the seriousness and scope of the alleged plan.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
During the search, police said officers recovered a rifle, several loaded rifle magazines and hundreds of additional rounds of ammunition. Authorities also reported finding a tactical vest containing body armor and a patch displaying imagery associated with white supremacist extremism.
Police said the items were examined alongside electronic communications and other evidence gathered during the investigation.
Investigators Examine an Extremist Document
According to police, detectives reviewed a document attributed to Paporakis titled “Why I Fought: A.K.A.: (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto).” Authorities said the document contained white supremacist and extremist statements, including references to violence directed at people of South Asian heritage, particularly those of Indian descent.
Investigators believe a Hindu place of worship in Aurora, Illinois, may have been a potential target. However, police stressed that the specific intended location had not been confirmed and remained under investigation. The FBI is assisting local authorities.
Suspect Remains in Custody
Following consultations with prosecutors, Paporakis was charged with felony offenses including making a terrorist threat and unlawful weapon possession. A judge ordered him detained following a hearing on October 14, police said.
His next court appearance is scheduled for October 30. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been established as guilt in a criminal trial.

Authorities Continue Their Investigation
The case has raised concerns about how threats communicated online can develop into potential real-world violence. Investigators are continuing to review evidence and determine whether the alleged plan involved a specific location or additional individuals.
Authorities have not confirmed that an attack occurred. The arrest came before the date police believe the potential attack may have been planned, and the investigation is continuing.
