5-Year-Old Cairo Jordan Found Dead in Suitcase: What Happened to the Indiana Boy?

A heartbreaking case involving a young boy whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in rural Indiana shocked investigators and the public. The child was later identified as Cairo Ammar Jordan, a five-year-old whose disappearance had gone unreported.
In April 2022, a man searching for mushrooms came across a suitcase bearing a Las Vegas design near a remote road in Washington County, Indiana. Inside, investigators found the boy’s remains.
Months later, authorities identified Cairo and announced that his mother, Dejaune Anderson, was wanted in connection with his death. Another woman, Dawn Coleman, was also arrested in the investigation.
An autopsy found that Cairo died from an electrolyte imbalance associated with gastroenteritis, which can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea and lead to dehydration. Investigators reported no signs of physical trauma.
Anderson was arrested in California in March 2024 after nearly two years on the run. Coleman later pleaded guilty to charges connected to the case and received a 30-year prison sentence, with five years suspended.
As of October 2026, Anderson has pleaded not guilty to charges in Kentucky, including murder. The case remains a legal proceeding, and the allegations against her have not been proven in court.

The investigation continues to raise painful questions about how the young child died and what happened in the days before his body was discovered.
