Mother Pays Heartbreaking Tribute After Husband and Two Teenage Sons Die in Remote Colorado Plane Crash

A Colorado mother is mourning the devastating loss of her husband and two teenage sons after their small plane crashed in a remote mountainous area, killing all three aboard.
Mark Hendrickson, 46, was flying with his sons Alan, 15, and Case, 13, when their single-engine aircraft went down near Swampy Pass in the West Elk Wilderness of Colorado’s Gunnison National Forest on the morning of October 24, 2026.
The family lived in New Castle, Colorado. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crash occurred shortly after 8:10 a.m. local time. Authorities received a report of the downed aircraft at around 9:20 a.m., and emergency crews eventually reached the remote crash site, where all three occupants were pronounced dead.
In a heartbreaking message shared after the tragedy, Mark’s wife, Jenni, struggled to put her grief into words.
“I never thought I would have to write these words,” she said. “My loves of my life, Mark and our two beautiful boys, Alan and Case, tragically passed away in a plane crash yesterday.”
The family also expressed gratitude for the kindness and support they had received from friends, relatives and members of the community as they faced the unimaginable loss.

Mark and his two sons are survived by Jenni and the couple’s other son, Coen. The tragedy has left their family and community grieving three lives lost in a single incident.
The aircraft was identified as a Piper PA-28-235, a single-engine airplane. The rugged terrain around Swampy Pass made reaching the wreckage challenging, and investigators are now working to determine what caused the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. Forest Service are involved in the investigation. Officials have not established whether weather conditions, a mechanical problem or another factor contributed to the accident.
As the investigation continues, the family is left facing a loss that is difficult to comprehend: a mother has lost her husband and two sons, while a surviving brother must grow up without his father and siblings.
For those who knew the Hendricksons, the focus is now on remembering Mark, Alan and Case and supporting the loved ones they leave behind.
