The Lost Heiress PART 2 — THE SECRET HERITAGE

The Lost Heiress
PART 2 — THE SECRET HERITAGE
I stared at Richard Whitmore, unable to process what he had just told me.
“My father is alive?”
Richard nodded slowly.
“His name is Alexander Whitmore. He was my only son and the former heir to the Whitmore empire.”
I swallowed hard.
“Then why did my mother leave? Why did she raise me alone?”
Richard’s expression filled with pain.
“Because Alexander was never supposed to marry Linda. He was engaged to another woman, the daughter of a powerful business family. When Linda became pregnant, he promised to leave everything behind and build a life with her.”
He paused.
“But someone discovered their relationship. Shortly before you were born, Linda received threats. She was told that if she stayed with Alexander, the baby would never survive.”
My fingers tightened around the necklace.
“Who threatened her?”
Richard looked down.
“My late wife, Eleanor. Your grandmother.”
I couldn’t believe it.
“Your own wife?”
“She believed Linda would destroy the family reputation. I was overseas when everything happened. By the time I returned, Linda had disappeared, and Alexander had been told that she and the baby were dead.”
Richard took another document from his briefcase.
It was a DNA test authorization.
“I want to confirm everything before making any public announcement. But Madison, I’ve already recognized your mother’s necklace. It was commissioned specifically for her. There is no other piece like it.”
I stepped away.
“I don’t want your money. I just want to know why everyone lied to me.”
Richard’s eyes softened.
“Then I’ll tell you everything. But first, you need somewhere safe to stay.”
I shook my head.

“I have an apartment.”
“An apartment where your landlord has threatened to evict you?”
My face went pale.
He placed another paper on the counter.
It was a photograph of my apartment building.
My heart nearly stopped.
“Why do you have that?”
Richard’s expression became serious.
“Because someone has been watching you for the past two weeks.”
Before I could ask another question, his phone rang.
He answered immediately.
“What happened?”
A man’s voice came through the speaker.
“Mr. Whitmore, Alexander’s private security team has arrived. He’s demanding to see the young woman.”
Richard’s jaw tightened.
“How did he find out?”
“We don’t know, sir. But he’s already outside.”
Richard turned toward me.
“Madison, whatever happens, don’t leave my side.”
A moment later, the jewelry store door opened.
A tall man in a black overcoat entered.
He had dark hair, an expensive watch, and eyes that looked strangely familiar.
He stared at me.
Then his gaze dropped to the necklace around my neck.
“Linda’s necklace…”
His voice cracked.
“Madison?”
Richard stepped between us.
“Alexander, you have some explaining to do.”
The man ignored him.
He looked at me with tears gathering in his eyes.
“I’m your father.”
And for the first time in thirty-two years, I was standing in front of the man whose absence had shaped my entire life.
But I wasn’t ready to forgive him.
Not yet.
