Colombian Criminal Who Targeted Elderly Bank Customers Is Deported After Prison Sentence

A Colombian criminal who preyed on vulnerable people withdrawing money from banks and cash machines has been deported from the UK after serving part of his prison sentence.

Amet Cortez was jailed for 44 months after targeting elderly and vulnerable victims who had visited cashpoints and bank counters. His crimes involved stealing substantial amounts of cash from people who were particularly exposed to theft.

The Home Office removed Cortez from the country before he had completed his full prison term, according to reports.

His deportation is part of the UK’s wider efforts to remove foreign nationals convicted of serious offences. Authorities have increasingly highlighted the removal of convicted offenders as a key part of immigration enforcement.

The case has also drawn attention to the vulnerability of people carrying cash after visiting banks. Older customers can be particularly at risk when criminals watch their movements and look for opportunities to steal from them.

Cortez’s removal means he has been sent back to Colombia following his criminal conviction in Britain.

The case serves as another warning about criminals who deliberately target people they believe will be easy victims, particularly those leaving banks with cash.
