A helicopter crashed in a field near Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, southeast of Montreal, on Saturday afternoon, killing all four people aboard, Quebec police said.

The crash happened at around 2:30 p.m. ET near the Rang des Écossais, off Highway 10. Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Brigitte Dorsainville said the helicopter was on fire when emergency responders arrived at the scene.

All four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they were unable to immediately identify the victims or provide information about who owned the helicopter or where it had taken off, saying the investigation was still in its early stages.

The fire was brought under control, and the SQ’s major crimes unit has taken over the investigation.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada confirmed to CBC News that it had deployed a team of investigators to examine the crash site.

Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville is located about 55 kilometres southeast of Montreal.
