Child Dead, Two Children and Woman Critical After Blue Mountains Stabbing
VALLEY HEIGHTS, AUSTRALIA — September 20, 2026

A child has died and two other children and a woman are in critical condition following an alleged stabbing in Australia’s Blue Mountains on Sunday, police said.

Emergency services were called to Waratah Road in Valley Heights, near Springwood, shortly before 1 p.m. after reports that three children and a woman had suffered stab wounds inside a vehicle.

Child Found Dead Inside Vehicle
Police said one of the children was found deceased inside the vehicle when emergency services arrived.

The other two children and the woman were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital and Westmead Hospital. All three were reported to be in critical condition.

The children are believed to be under five years old, while the woman is believed to be in her 40s. Their identities have not been formally confirmed.

Members of Public Gave First Aid
Several members of the public reportedly stopped to help the injured children and woman while emergency services were being contacted.

A crime scene has since been established on Waratah Road as investigators work to determine what happened.

Police said they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Investigation Underway
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, was in the area around the time of the stabbing, or has relevant mobile-phone or dashcam footage to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries remain under investigation, and police have not publicly released further details about the relationship between the woman and the children or the events that led to the stabbing.
