Father arrested, 14-year-old daughter rescued by Mexican authorities in California incest case

14-YEAR-OLD GIRL RESCUED IN MEXICO AS FATHER IS ARRESTED IN DISTURBING CALIFORNIA CASE

A 14-year-old California girl who had been missing for weeks has been safely rescued in Mexico, while her father has been arrested, authorities confirmed.

The case began after the remains of a newborn, referred to by authorities as “Baby Angelita,” were discovered beside a road in northern Monterey County on August 1.

Investigators later alleged that the teenager had been sexually abused and impregnated by her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez. Authorities say Perez is believed to be the father of the newborn.

An Amber Alert was issued after investigators became concerned for the teenager’s safety and attempted to locate both her and her father.

Now, Monterey County authorities say the search has ended with the teenager being found safely in Mexico.

RESCUE OPERATION IN MEXICO

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, detectives worked with the FBI and Mexican authorities to locate the missing teenager.

During the rescue operation, Mexican law enforcement arrested Perez. Authorities said he was allegedly found in possession of narcotics at the time of his arrest.

The teenager is currently in the care of local authorities in Mexico, according to Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto.

Officials have also confirmed that Mexican authorities are aware of the criminal allegations pending against Perez in Monterey County.

FATHER FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES

Perez is wanted in connection with several serious allegations, including incest, alleged sexual offenses involving a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment and child endangerment.

Importantly, authorities have clarified that the 14-year-old should be viewed as a victim of alleged abuse, rather than simply as a suspect in the investigation surrounding the newborn’s death.

Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni previously said that no charging decision had been made against the teenager and emphasized that the child had endured horrific circumstances.

The investigation into the death of the newborn remains ongoing.

A CHILD NOW SAFE

The teenager’s rescue marks a major development in a case that has attracted widespread attention.

Authorities had been searching for her since she disappeared from the Salinas area, and investigators had previously located the vehicle believed to have been used by her and her father.

Police have not yet released extensive details about where in Mexico the pair were located or exactly how the rescue operation unfolded.

A news conference is expected to provide additional information as the investigation continues.

For now, authorities say the most important development is that the teenager has been located and is safe.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against Perez have not been adjudicated in court.
