Woman’s Body Found in Livestock Tank as Police Investigate Suspicious Death

Police in northern New South Wales have launched an investigation after a body was discovered in a livestock treatment tank on a remote property near Terragon.

Investigators believe the deceased may be a woman, but her identity has not yet been established. Police are treating the death as suspicious because of the remote location where the body was found.

Body Discovered by Trail Bike Riders

The discovery was made at about 11:20am on Monday, October 5, when two trail bike riders were travelling along a track through a property near Kyogle Road at Terragon.

The riders stopped near a livestock treatment tank and noticed what appeared to be a body. They immediately contacted emergency services.

Police and ambulance crews attended the location a short time later and confirmed that a person had died.

Remote Location Raises Questions

The property is located about 20 kilometres south-west of Murwillumbah, with the body found approximately 300 metres from the road along an overgrown track.

Detectives said the isolated location, combined with the absence of an obvious vehicle or other means of transport nearby, had raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the death.

A crime scene was established overnight, with detectives and specialist forensic officers examining the area and gathering evidence.

Identity Has Not Yet Been Confirmed

Police believe the deceased is female, but investigators have not been able to establish her identity because of the condition of the body.

A full post-mortem examination is expected to provide important information about the person’s identity and how she died.

Police are also checking missing-person records in both New South Wales and Queensland as they work to determine whether the deceased could be connected to an existing missing-person investigation.

Investigators Speak With Local Residents

Police have spoken with neighbours and taken a number of statements as part of their investigation.

At this stage, detectives have not established how long the body had been at the location.

Authorities have also not identified a suspect or publicly established a motive. The investigation remains at an early stage.

Post-Mortem Expected to Provide Answers

The body is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination this week.

Investigators hope the examination will help establish the person’s identity and cause of death, while further forensic work may provide additional clues about how she came to be at the remote property.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about suspicious activity in the Terragon area to contact Tweed Heads Police or Crime Stoppers.
